Shoulder Blade Pain
About two weeks ago I received two emails from my “Ask A Question” section on my blog one asking about ankle pain (which I’m still working with her with more questions) and another with shoulder blade pain from golfing.

Hi welcome to another video. My name is Vincent Woon in this video I’m going to answer a question form my “ASK A QUESTION” section of my blog from one of my readers.
Due to privacy policy I’ve copy an paste our email conversation to Pages. The question was asking for help with pain under shoulder blade.
He said he found my videos in YouTube and went on to my blog and this is his story. He said have sudden pain under his left shoulder blade & at first he thought it was a torn trapezius. He googled and found this website and showed me the picture here which is the subscapularis muscle and went on pain when he lift his arm up over his shoulder and at the same time lean forward or sideways. Also painful when he is coughing.
He discovered that if he pull his shoulders back real tight cough, there’s no pain.
He went on and he said he can’t think of anything specific but he mention intense golf – haven’t played for 10 years & started playing a lot for 3 weeks now he is hitting 50 in a couple of months. And haven’t sort any medical/chiropractic or physiotherapy help yet
I asked him if he can point out where the pain/pains is? Whether it’s in middle left or upper right of the subscapularis muscle base on the pic on the link he sent me.
He said it’s feel’s like it’s under the shoulder blade but suspect it’s something else and sent me to this website.This site explain the symptoms of where he thinks the pain is. BUT Can’t really id which point he feel the pain – how should he go about locating the point? By pressing on it? How should it feel?
Ok! I’m going to show you three steps to shoulder blade reliefNumber one to locate where the pain is, In order to locate where the pain is, you have to figure out what is a good muscle and what is a pain muscle.
How do you figure out what is a good muscle and a muscle in pain? A good muscle should feel like, for instance there’s no pain on your arm…you just touch here, see how mushy it is how bouncy it is. It’s nice and soft, the muscle feels like normal..no pain.
He said he had a pain on the left shoulder so in order to compare to that he has to press to feel the right shoulder and see if there’s a difference. The right shoulder he should feel soft and mushy nice and no pain just like how we felt on the hand and on the pain area you will feel tightness and when you press on it you will feel the pain. The tightness is what we call knots.
Now that we know the difference between a good muscle, a pain muscle or tight muscle..When we work on it you can feel how the tight muscle will become the soft muscle and you can see the difference.
Second step is to loosen the muscles in the area. What you need to do is look for a wall hand on the wall. 90º for the middle of the shoulder blade, 45º is for the lower part of the shoulder blade, 135º is for the upper part of the shoulder.
135º for the upper part, 90º for the middle of the shoulder blade, 45º is for the lower part and let take a look of the side view, one step forward hand on the wall and stretch make sure you bend your knees.
Let’s take a look at he front view, step forward and stretch make sure your knee is bend.
Now that we have number one locate where the pain is, number two loosen it up and number three I’m going to show you how to work on it. We go straight to the point of the area where you feel the pain, put some pressure on it, Make sure you use the tip of your fingers, here finger pads press on it and then move backwards, forwards, backwards, forwards. Let me show you the front view backward, forwards, backwards and forwards, back and forward.
And you can also turn it this way, start with a small circle and probably bigger go forward and then backward. Small circle and big circle.
You can also have somebody rub on it and as you rub on it or you can rub it yourself like such, you can use your other hand to support your elbow and just rub this way.
The pain is here and the muscle over here is going this direction, so what you are doing is you are rubbing against the muscle this way and as you rub you can feel that the muscles become softer like the muscle that you felt the good muscle in this area here earlier and that’s when you know the muscle is loosen up and the pain will be gone!
Basically what this does is when you rub you create circulation to the area and when there’s circulation to the area it will take away knots and stuff. When that’s circulation there’s oxygen and oxygen oxygenate the place/area and it will loosen up the pain

how do you get rid of chronic shoulder pain from the blade when steroid shots dont work?

nice video !! … i have a problem with my shoulder. I like to play cricket and whenevr i throw the ball. i feel the pain very badly. I am not even able to bowl because of this pain and when i try to bowl my pain goes higher but the pain does not persist for a long time, may be a couple of minutes. Normally there is no pain but it goes up when i throw, or rotate completely my arm, thats when it gets really painfull. Plzz help me out. thanks in advance.

You probably have tight muscles and you need to warm up before playing. You can put a little pressure on the pain area when you do the movement that causes the pain (ex if when you move your right hand upwards in a throwing position and the back corner of your shoulder hurts, put some pressure with your left fingers on the pain spot and keep doing the action and feel the relief)Try this and let me know! 🙂

I exactly same problem as mnkanthful mentioned . This all started when i was playing shuttle, i did one hit and got TIC sound in the shoulder. From then i have this problem . now it”s been 3 years. really i need to get his fixed so i can start playing cricket. Please help me.
The pain is only when i try throwing the ball fast and in that fast movement pressing with the left hand is difficult. however i tried it once and it was a bit relieving. It pains in the joint area while releasing the ball. It feels like something is pressing a muscle or something inside the body at the shoulder joint when i am throwing the ball. however if i throw it underarm it never pains !!! … it pains only when i try throwing across or from above.

Nice video do you think this will help me i recently sat down in a&e for four hours to then be told my muscle around my shoulder blade is inflamed and is coursing pain every time i move cough or even try and get out of bed i am usually a healthy person with my martial arts background.

I had the same issue. Pain on the same spot. It wasnt a muscle but something with a nerve between spine discs c7 and th1. Nerves all come together in the spine. When you feel pain around the shoulder blades it isn’t necessarily a muscle thats hurting. I went to a chiropractor and he fixed my neck/upper back spine in 3 sessions. After that the pain was gone.

hello! I have issue when sleeping because I need support to sleep and I have to push my shoulder up from my pillow, generating extrenous tension. How can I relief this horrible pain? Can I correct my sleeping habits? If I try to sleep otherwise, I feel like I am suffocating. Thank you

hi, i have a sore pain on my right bracheli muscle, and lower neck, although i can still lift weight i can bench press 205 pounds for full 15 reps, but sometimes i always feel the sore from the bracheli, then the paralyze down to the forearms, then the paralyzed to the risk. although i can still lift weight, but it felt very annoyed. One more thing, sometimes when i drink beer i can feel something sore and paralyzed even more. can you help me out ?

i can still able to move my arm and lifting weights, but during the day i feel a low degree of paralyze down to my forearms and wrik. The pain is from the bracheli(sometimes lower neck) but the paralyzing is down to forearms and the wrisk.I been trying to stop lifting weight for 10 days .but doesnt get any better
How often do you have the paralyze feeling and what were you doing during those times when it occur since stopping weight 10 days ago.. 🙂
every 2 hour or so is the paralyze down to the upper forearms. the activies i do is typing, cooking, anything that a child can do but not lifting weight . now i also feel the extra upset to my upper shoulder muscle also. When i typing i can feel the torn from the back deltoid (the root of pain and paralyze and upset to my other regions)

hi i have had a bad pain in my left shoulder blade for nearly two months its got that bad sometimes i wake up and have pins and needles in my finger like its stopping the blood or something went doctors they sent me for a xray and come back clear i keep trying streches but it getting worse any ideas what it could be ?

go to a chiropractor once or twice in one week if the pain gose away you dislocated the head of your rib known as faccet disease no big deal pins and needles in the fingers comes from the neck and when my shoulders out my necks bad too if this dosent help it could be blood presure Idont know what kind of dr didnt think of that!! ask your dr to send you to physical therapy to learn how to use moist heat pack or just hop in a real hot tub only after ruling out blood presure problem
